September 2021
Wow, an Indian summer with 4 weeks of lovely sunshine around 20 degrees during the day and high nighttime temps with almost no rain. Grapes have come on and veraison in the pinot is showing as the bunches turn black. Recorded max of 30 degrees in the vineyard in the sun.
Put out the traps for spotted winged drosphilla (SWD). A menace if the female lays eggs below of the skin of the grapes.
Go through each field every other day and take off any emerald green bunches (Chardonnay) and most of second bunches on each shoot which struggle to ripen.
