May 2021
For the rain, it raineth every day (WS). I know because I recorded it with despair. The grass grew but was too wet to cut. The vines hardly moved on for the whole of the month. We were going to get a very late flowering, that was for sure.
Nature has taken no notice of the fact that homo sapiens’s world has come to a grinding halt.
Following some fine dry weather in April the vine buds are shooting ahead and showing 2 leaves or more. Now is the time to select the spur for next year and remove any secondary buds from the cane. Thinning out primary buds for good nodal distance will be left for the end of the month
This was taken on 5 May. Bud burst in the Pinot Noir field was about 2 weeks ago and it is amazing how quickly they have progressed.
